Please read the passage before the homily.
Jesus came to his own town and people. There he could not work miracles because they had no faith in him.
What is faith? Children have faith in their parents. They know that their love them and want to give them good things. Faith is the trust that they have in their parents.
Jesus’ people knew Jesus as one of their own, not as a prophet of God’s. His family in Nazareth were thinking that Jesus could not work miracles or speak the word of God. Jesus’ people did not have trust in the whole Jesus. For them Jesus was a day laborer only, and not a prophet.
Before we accept the truth from those who teach us, we have to have trust in them. It is the same with doctors. They cannot heal us if we have no trust, or faith, in them.
If we love God, if Jesus is for us like a friend, and if we put our trust in him, we believe in his words, in his teaching, and in his power. If we believe in our friends, then we believe in their words. Much more if we have trust in Jesus, do we believe in his life, in his words, and in his power for us. Our trust, which is our faith, enables Jesus to work many miracles for us.
Faith is primarily trust in someone. After this, faith can mean belief in the truthfulness of one’s life, one’s teachings and one’s actions.
Our faith in Jesus is our trust that Jesus has come into the world to save us, and ghat he has the power to save us, and that he will save us because he has said that he would save us. We know that Jesus is truth and always speaks the truth. As Jesus said many times, “Your faith in me, your trust in me, has saved you. Go in peace.”
