Please read the passage before reading the homily that follows.
My sisters and brothers,
Epiphany celebrates three revelations of Christ: the first is the arrival of the Magi; the second is the baptism of the Lord; and the third is the revelation of Christ in the first two chapters of John. Last Sunday celebrated the Epiphany of the Lord and last Monday celebrated the baptism of the Lord. Today celebrates the third, in the revelation of Jesus as the Lamb of God.
Who is Jesus and where does he live? To those who look for him he says to them, “Come and see.” We call ourselves Christians. We say that Chrit live in us. This is good news if the rest see that Jesus is in us; it is bad news if they cannot see Jesus in us.
I am in Mexico right now. The people of Mexico have welcomed me. The have shown me the face of Christ; when I see them, I see Christ. When I welcome them as my friends in Mexico, I show them the face of Christ. If I show them my own face, I show them my ugliness.
Un today’s mystery, God has shown us his compassion, his goodness, and his charity. In the mystery that we are, we have an obligation to show the rest of the world the same charity, goodness and compassion.
Andrew was one of the first two who heard John call Jesus the Lamb of God and followed Jesus. He introduced his brother to Jesus and Jesus gave his brother a new name, Peter. Andrew was very glad for his brother. This is how we show the face of GOd to others.
For my Mexican friends, Jesus says, “Come to see where I live.” I came and see that Christ is in this place, among the Mexicans. May they continue doing the word of life that that the Lord give them.
