Please read the passage before reading the homily
The Church is going to have a baby! The due date is April 3. This what the Church needs to do for the health of the baby:
1. She now has to feed for herself and for the baby. This means that we, the Church, must share our food with the hungry. This why we fast during Lent, so that the baby gets the nourishment needed for growth. We fast so others can feast.
2. She has to spread the news of the coming birth to all her friends and relatives. This is why we need extra prayer. Others must come to know of the Church’s good fortune.
3. She now has to think about saving for the child’s college education. This is why we give alms and share our wealth with those who have less. What we give away, we save.
The whole idea of Lent is to prepare for the birth that is coming. As we prepare for the new birth, we are reminded of our birth. No matter when we were baptized, the official anniversary is the Easter Vigil, this year, April 3.
This is a good way to get a goof focus on Lent and its purpose.
