Please read the passage noted before the commentary.
“Now is the Son of man glorified.”
We glorify the heroes that have given their lives for their country in war. We do not glorify the cowards who run away from danger.
The Lord’s glory is an important theme in the Gospel according to John. Jesus gave the first of his signs in Cana of Galilee when he changed water into wine. Jesus showed his glory, and the apostles believed in him. His glory was to show signs of God’s love for people.
All the signs that Jesus did revealed the glory of God. The death of Jesus was for the glory of Jesus. Without his death there would be no resurrection or glory.
On the eve of is passion and resurrection, in today’s reading, Jesus could see his glorification. His darkest hour was the beginning of his glorification.
Why is there a glorification? Heroism produces glorification. What do we have to do for our glorification? If we are disciples of Jesus, we have to love each other as Jesus loved us. It is easy to love those who love us; but it is heroic to love everybody without exception. We have glory when we are his disciples.
There is no greater love than to give our life for everyone else, nor is there any more glory than being disciples of hm who has given his life for us. His glory was to show signs of God’s love for people.
