Please read the passage before the homily.
Apparently, there was a burglar who called Jesus up ahead of time to make an appointment to burglarize his house. Jesus, however, being a smart person, waited up for him and commandeered him to jail. Would you have done the same? I’d say the burglar’s name was Satan.
There are four other householder managers in the gospel today. The master changes places with the loyal and faithful steward. The master changes the place of the unfaithful steward and gives him a place in a jail.
Another servant knows what he is supposed to do, but deliberately does the opposite and gets fired. The servant who messes up his job completely, but does not know any better, gets off easily.
Where are we in this crowd of household managers? The more God has given us in trust, the more God will require of us. Jesus has defeated Satan. There is no need now for colossal mistakes or deliberately slacking off of our duties. We are saved from all that and our house is fully protected from burglary, theft and damage.
