Please read the passage before reading the commentary
We have a series of readings from Paul’s letter to the Galatians. Galatia It included north-central Turkey and south towards the Mediterranean. Paul had visited the southern portion of the Galatia.
When Paul wrote letters, he had more on his mind than passing the time of day. He had business to attend to. In today’s passage Paul was saying something like, “I am upset with you; I am not proud of you. I have a bone to pick with you.” I gather that some people had come after Paul who were preaching a different Gospel, a “Jesus-Light” kind of gospel.
Paul is adamant. Only the Gospel he had preached to the Galatians was the authentic one. The gospel Paul preached was the gospel he had received from the Lord Jesus who had appeared to Paul as Paul was travelling to Damascus, as recorded in Acts (9:3-9). This Gospel was not of human origin but had come directly from the Lord Jesus.
Those who proclaimed gospels of human origin were judged accursed by Paul. He would not waver; he would speak the truth. He was fighting for the faith of the Galatians; their life in Christ was more important to him than having friends in high places.
We are supposed to be disciples of Paul. We are supposed to be preaching the unadulterated Gospel of Jesus Christ in our living and speaking the Christ on earth. Although we use human mouth and human language to proclaim it, as Paul did, the Gospel itself is not of human origin. As Paul was faithful, so ought we be faithful.
