Please read the passage before reading the commentary.

“God chose us to be in Christ, holy and without blemish.”  If God has chosen us to be holy and without blemish, why are we not holy and without blemish?  Is this promise to be holy and without blemish an empty promise so that we can only despair of being holy and without blemish?

If we are in despair, then I can understand the sad state of the world in which we live.  On the other hand, if we believe that we can eventually become holy and without blemish, why do we not have the better world that we want?

When the Son of God took on human flesh and nature, God took our human nature with all its sinfulness and transformed our nature into sinlessness.  God, who is sinless, took on our body with all its sins in order to undo the effects of sin in our being.  God decided to free us of our sins when God sent the Son into our life, our nature, our existence.  If God is all-powerful, how can God fail to free us our sins?

God chose us to be holy and without blemish.  God has the power to do whatever God wants.  Therefore, God can make us holy and without blemish. We can, therefore, disregard any fear or dread that we will fail because God is stronger than our frailty.

We should, therefore, be enthusiastic and positive about making ourselves and our world better.  Unless we believe that we can be without sin and will someday be without sin, we will live in ultimate despair and terror.  Our reality is that we can be sinless and that we can move forward in better living.
