Please read the passage noted before the commentary.

It is Palm Sunday.  Each year we proclaim the passion of Christ.  This year we read from the Passion according to St Luke.  In his gospel, Luke has highlighted the presence of women, forgiveness of sinners, the contribution of foreigners.

Women: A great crown of women followed Jesus.  Jesus turned to the women and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, weep for yourselves.”  Many women suffer from the death or loss of their children through war, drugs, abortion, imprisonment or other violence.  How can we show the mercy of Jesus to them?

Strangers: Simon helped Jesus carry his cross.  He was a stranger, from Cyrene.  There are many strangers in our country.  some can contribute to our economy.  Others need to have help temporarily.  How can we welcome them in our communities.

Sinners: The soldiers crucified Jesus. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing.?  One of the criminals crucified with Jesus said to Jesus, “Remember me when you come into your kingdom.”  Jesus answered, “Today you will be with me ion paradise”

There are many who are prisoners.  Some are convicted of crimes, others for being strangers or refugees from other countries.  They are people.  They have families, mothers, children, spouses.  They also have many talents that they can share with us.  Despite their actions and circumstances, they need Jesus as much as we do.  How can we welcome them into the kingdom of Jesus, especially since Christ has forgiven us, saying that we do not know what we are doing.”?
