Please read the passage noted before the commentary.
It is Easter Sunday. We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. The gospel writers teach us that Jesus rose from the dead, but they do not tell us how he rose.
Mary, the Magdalene, saw the stone removed from the tomb. She believed that someone had removed Jesus from the tomb. She did not believe that the body of Jesus had risen. The mystery of Mary Magdalene is that she did not know the resurrection.
The mystery of the disciples is that John ran faster than Simon, but the last became the first.
The mystery of the resurrection is that no one had understood the Scriptures about the resurrection.
We share in this mystery. Jesus has risen from the dead and we likewise have risen from the dead with him. Just as Jesus is in heaven, so are we with him in heaven. Just as we are on earth, so is Jesus with us on earth. This is the mysterious truth.
The sufferings of Christ include the sufferings we have. We share now on earth the glory of Jesus. All this is the mystery of Jesus. The resurrection of Jesus is mystery, but it is also truth and fact. In this same mystery we have a share on this solemnity, feast and celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. The mystery is of the factual resurrection of Jesus; the how is of little importance.
