Jesus’ disciples told Jesus to send her away, the Canaanite woman. They had also suggested that Jesus send away the five thousand people at the multiplication of the loaves. Jesus did not send the crowd away; he fed them, along with the woman and children. Jesus did not send the Canaanite woman away. He heard her petition and granted her request.
When God sends people into our lives, even if we do not know that God has done this, and we want to send them away, we should reconsider because God must have a purpose for sending people into our lives.
This Canaanite woman was not Jewish and had no standing in the Jewish community, yet Jesus praised her faith. She had saluted Jesus as Lord and Son of David, both of them Jewish Messianic titles. She readily accepted being a beggar under table of the Lord Jesus. She asked, not for herself, but for her daughter.
Jesus calls us not to send people away. We are to accept them, love them, and welcome them. Jesus fed the five thousand. He will grant the Canaanite woman’s request. He will grant our heart’s desire also. Let us live our faith in him.
