Please read this passage before reading the homily.
With the feast of the Epiphany and the Baptism of the Lord, the season of Christmas has ended. The feast of the Epiphany celebrates three mysteries, the coming of the magi, the baptism of the Lord, and the change of water into wine at the wedding at Can in Galilee.
These three mysteries are proclamations of Epiphany, that Christ, the God-with-us Emmanuel, is with us to make the world holy. The magi came from the East; the waters of the Jordan are blessed for the salvation of all peoples, the wedding at Cana is the first public sign of the power if Christ.
Last Sunday and Monday we celebrated the mysteries of the Magi and the Baptism. We should also celebrate somehow the wedding this year. Through the changing of water into wine the disciples came to believe in Jesus; and, through his proclamation, John the Baptist gave his testimony that Jesus was the Son of God. Both of these are proclamations of Christ, epiphanies of the Lord.
In his birth, in his infancy, in his youth, in the first days of his public life, and in the whole of his life, including his death and resurrection, Jesus is the Son of God. This Son of God became human and dwelt among us.
This is the Jesus in whom we believe and who has saved us.
