Please read this passage before reading the homily.
My sisters and brothers,
Wait, wait, wait.
A sower sowed good seed in his field and waited for the harvest. He had an enemy, however, who planted weeds among the wheat. The sower could not uproot the weeds right away lest he uproot the wheat as well. The sower had to wait until the harvest.
The mustard seed did not immediately turn into a tree, but it had to wait its growth. The seed took a long time to become a tree.
A little bit of yeast can ferment the dough, but baker has to wait for the yeast to do its work.
Farmers always have to wait or their crops. The mustard seed has to wait to become a tree. The baker has to wait for the bread.
Wait, wait, wait.
The baby will become a toddler, the toddler will become a teenager, the teenager will become an adult. Parents have to wait for their children to grow.
Who waits? It is not we who wait, rather it is God who waits for us. Yes, God waits for us, patiently and compassionately. Then we must wait for the others because we are all in the process of growing towards perfection.
You parents have grown up to now; your children likewise will grow up into adulthood. You always are waiting. Nature is always waiting for the harvest, for the loaf of bread, for the tree.
The sower sowed good seed in his field and waited for the harvest. We wait for good things. God, more than we, is patient, compassionate, all-powerful, and waiting for us to grow into the fulness of God’s life in us. God takes pleasure in our growth; do we take pleasure in being like God?
A sower sowed good seed in his field and waited for the harvest.
