My sisters and brothers,
Today we celebrate the fourth Sunday of Advent.
On this fourth Sunday of Advent, St Paul would have us give glory to God.
Despite the coronavirus, despite disputed elections, despite personal dangers, despite our soured relations, despite the weather, despite illness, despite conspiracy theories, despite setbacks and other negative things, St Paul tells us to give glory to God.
The Gospel needs to be brought to fulfilment and the revelation of the mystery needs to be proclaimed. The long-standing plan of God has to come to completion. The nations of the world have to give obedience to God. The work is hard, the work is arduous. By ourselves we lack have the power to bring it to fulfillment. Only God and complete it, as the Gospel tells us. Only God can give us the power to bring our work to its goal. Only God can draw the nations to the obedience of the faith.
To God, then, should we give the glory, through Jesus Christ forever.
It matters now how much we have to labor. It matters not the difficulty of the work. It matters nothing, unless it is the power of God. It is God who give the strength and success to our work. Without God, we work in vain; with God we work with success.
To God, then, should we give the glory, through Jesus Christ forever.
We have problems in our lives. We have tears. We have disappointments and sins. We have dangers and disagreements. From all of these God has delivered us. From all our future problems God will deliver us. To God, then, should we give the glory, through Jesus Christ forever.
