(Please read the passage cited above first.)
My sisters and brothers,
I walk every morning in the dark, before sunrise. I walk every day much the same path. I know the trail and I do not walk as one blind. Even though there is no light, I know the way and I walk in the light. I do not to want to walk in the dark on a trail that I do not know.
We have to walk in the light because we are children of the light. We are children of God who is Light from Light. We ought to know our way spiritually so we do not walk with danger. We need the light and security of Christ.
There are some who struggle to know and do what is right. Some cannot support their families, or work because of disabilities, or provide insurance for their families, or provide for their families the basic necessities. They are not losers; they are not sinners; they are poor people who cannot fulfill their responsibilities.
There are rich people who walk in the light and there are rich people who walk in darkness. There are poor people who walk in the light and there are poor people who walk in darkness. Those who walk in darkness are those who do not walk in the light. It is only the intentions of a person that determine if one walks in the light or not. How things turn out counts for nothing; only the intention count.
We are children of the light. It is only God’s mercy that has called us out of the darkness of sin into God’s wonderful light through the life of his Son Jesus Christ.
Both poor and rich, both those who speak English and those who speak Spanish, both men and women, both the healthy and the sick, both Democrats and Republicans, both citizen and the rest, all can be children of the light. We can all walk as children of the light through the mercy of God. We are not in darkness because the light of Christ shines in our hearts and actions. We are children of the light and we walk in the light of Christ.
