Please read the passage before the commentary.

Jesus climbed the mountain, as Moses had once done.  He called together his inner circle.  He wanted them to be with him, to preach for him, and to have authority to drive out demons.

Jesus still climbs the mountain and still calls his inner circle together.  We are that inner circle now.  He calls us because he wants us with him.  This is important for us.  Jesus calls us because he wants us.  We are not afterthoughts; we are intended by him.

He wants us and he wants us to preach him, to preach for him.  We are his inner circle; we know him.  We should have no problem preaching him.    Because we are his inner circle we know him, how he acts and how he thinks.

Because we are his inner circle, he has given us authority to drive out demons.  We should have no problem confronting any evil in our own lives and all the evil in the world.  Such is the authority we have received.

Jesus climbed the mountain and called his inner circle.  He named them once on that mountain, but he continues to name us into his chosen circle because he is always responsible for his Church and for those not yet in his inner circle so that Christ may be in all and bring all into oneness with his Father.  Let us embrace our call.
