We pause to reflect on Mary Magdalene as a witness to the resurrection of Jesus.
Jesus calls her, “Women”, when he first greets her. She did not recognize him. Then he called her by her name and she recognized her immediately.
This is the usual pattern of how Jesus deals with us. He doesn’t call out, “Hey, you”, but he calls us by name. The “woman”, aka “Hey, you”, is not to be a witness to the resurrection. Instead. Mary, a distinct person, called by her personal name, is to be the apostle to the apostles to give them the news of the resurrection,
God knows our names and our persons. When he calls us, he uses our names because God has personal work for us to do. What is God calling each of us to do today? God does not call us generically; he has specific work for each and calls us each by name to the specific work God has for us.
Jesus call the woman by her personal name, Mary, and told her to go to his brothers and tell them about his resurrection. As we stand at our tombs, or wherever else we are, God and Jesu gives us our assignment. Let us listen. Let us learn. Let us do.
