Please read the passage before the commentary.
One of my friends retired from the Air Force as a Major Select. I think this means that he would have received the rank of Major if a slot should become open; otherwise, he is just a retired Captain. Select means that a person of higher rank must die, retire, or advance to a higher rank for the Select to become a Major.
We celebrate the Ascension of the Lord. We are Selected citizens of heaven. His triumph is our victory as well. His ascension is our promotion, no longer called Select, but winners. We can “be confident of following where he, our head and founder, has gone before.”
We are not the insignificant people in the world, but we are Christ, we are, himself, in our world. Jesus ascended into heaven so that he could remain with us and so that we could be with Jesus in heaven. Jesus did not separate himself from us, but rather joined himself with us: Jesus and we are working together both in earth and in heaven.
It is written that the Messiah would have to suffer be raised from the dead on the third day and that in his name would be proclaimed (by us) to all the nations. . . the need to return to God and receive the forgiveness of sins. We are witnesses to this.
We are with Christ, we are not alone or by ourselves. We are joined with Christ in his glory and he is joined with us in his glory.
