Please read the passage before the commentary.
We are with child. We are pregnant. We have labor pains. When we have given birth, we will forget the trials because of our joy at giving birth. All our griefs, all our sorrows, all our pains, and all our stress in this life are labor pains. We are in anguish now, according to the words of Jesus, but we shall see Jesus again and our hearts will rejoice.
Wny do women go into labor to have a child? Why does the baby come to birth cryimg? It takes great energy and stress on both mother and child in the process of birthing. It takes energy and stress for an athlete to play, for construction workers to build, for teachers to teach, for us to live conscientiously. The success in the game, in the building, in the teaching, and in the living replaces the stress of working.
So it is with us. Our anguish, pain, and labor of being born to eternal life is to bring us into the fulness of God’s glory in God’s glory.
