Please read the passage before the commentary.
The disciples claim to understand Jesus, but in reality, they do not. Jesus could see that they would scatter once Jesus was arrested. This led Jesus to assert that even with their desertion, Jesus would not be alone because, no matter what happens, because the Father would always be with him.
When I travel from home, I see a lawn sign on the highway that proclaims, “God loves you even if no one else does.” I can smile at the sign because it was true for Jesus and is true for all who believe in Jesus that the Father is with us no matter what happens. With this confidence in the Father, Jesus could go with peace to his passion and death. With this same confidence each of us can face the challenges of life with peace because God is with us also.
Even after the disciples left Jesus and fled from his arrest, the Father remained with them and Christ shared with them his conquest of the world. Jesus also shares this conquest with us. We have conquered the world with Christ. Even when we think we have lost it, we have conquered it with Christ. We need to take courage because Christ has conquered the world.
