Please read the passage before the commentary.

Jesus asks Simon Peter the same question today three times.   Today Jesus askes us the same question, “Do you love me?”  How do we answer him?  Is our love apparent to him?

We are charged, as was Simon Peter, with feeding the sheep and flock of the Lord.  Each of us is our sibling’s keeper.  We have the same responsibility to care for one another that Simon Peter had.

Jesus says to each of us, “Do you love me, or are so caught up in your own agenda and worries that do not love others?”  We prefer to profess our love for Christ but on reality, we often fall short.  Jesus’ question to us reminds us to reevaluate our lives according to God’s priorities.

Simon Peter answered by saying, “Lord, you know everything, you know that I love you.”  The Lord knew how much Simon Peter failed to love but accepted his profession of love.  The Lord knows our failures to love and willingly accepts us into his service.  This all the mpore rezso to expand our love for Christ by loving all people.
