Please read the passage before reading the comments.

Paul spent a year and a half in Corinth.  Gallio was proconsul there around the years 50-51, something we know from extra-biblical writing.  He kept Priscilla and Aquila active in missionary work and brought them with him when he went to Syria.

Corinth was an important city for Paul.  He wrote several letters to the Corinthians, designated by us as I and II Corinthians.

It was also an important city for the Romans.  It was between the Aegean and the Adriatic Seas, and a center for commerce.  It was the second largest ci0rtyin the roman Empire.

In one sense there was not much going in in the passage, but in another sense, it the passage is filled with adventure.  The gospel is preached for a year and a half.  There was some harassment of the Christian community.  There were noticeable conversions.  There were arrivals and departures.  The everyday happenings to a community that mark its growth and life were working their influence on the Church in Corinth.

Paul would leave Corinth a well-founded Christian community, able to support itself and branch out to other localities in missionary spirit.

Perhaps Paul’s stay in Corinth is like our stay in our cities, towns and localities, where in the everyday course of events we grow and mature in the love of God.  It is God’s way that we bloom where we are until God sends us elsewhere.

Where we spend our daily lives, in small cities or large ones, in our daily occupations and acquaintances, we are growing and sharing our faith in God and Jesus Christ. In our communities, we are receiving and giving as were the early Christians in Corinth.
