Please read the passage before the homily.

This passage from Daniel is more concerned with the end time.  The first part of Daniel describes more the extraordinary power Daniel and his three companions exercised in their captivity.  This passage concerns dreams and their interpretation in the context of the struggle of evil versus good.

We have experienced in our lives and in our recent histories good rulers of people and evil rulers.  In the reign of evil we long for a good ruler.  In the reign of good people, we tend to get complacent.  We have to struggle against evil; we do not have to struggle against good rulers.

Perhaps we should not be striving for good leaders.  Maybe we should be on the lookout for best of the better leaders.  Good does not consist in avoiding evil, but rather in pursuing the good.

There were a number of kings or realms in the visions.  They all passed away, except for one, which is described as having dominion, glory and kingship.  That kingdom shall not be destroyed.  In which dream do we want to work, in one that fades and passes away or the one with eternal dominion?  We make our choice, now we must work on our choice.
