Please read the passage before the homily

The gift and call of God are irrevocable.  God called the Jews to faith in God.  The Jews, therefore, have a secure and trusted place in God’s plan for all.  The Jewish people are not condemned to infidelity; they have a privileged place in God’s plan.  God did not make a mistake in revealing himself and choosing the Jewish people.

We Gentiles were once disobedient to God.  When the Jewish people who did not believe in Christ thereby became disobedient to God, God’s mercy called the pagans who believe in Christ to salvation.

God used the disobedience of some so as to call all people to salvation.  This makes Jew and Gentile even in the sight of God.  It also makes men and women equal in God’s sight.  If you have a hard time figuring God out, that is fine.  Paul himself explained that the ways of God are inscrutable and unsearchable.

Who can figure God out?  The whole of creation is from God and is through God.  All things also were created for God.  It is to God that glory is given, not to us.

Paul wrote to the Romans, the Jewish teacher to the Gentile people.  All are one in faith, thanks to the mercy of the one God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
