What kind of person makes the best Christian? This is a trick question. We could divide the Christians into various groups, like party animals and party abstainers. John the Baptist came fasting from food and drink and they called him possessed. The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they called him a glutton and a drunkard.
We are like children, playing own favorite games according to our own whims, paying attention to our own desires and moods, without a thought about tomorrow. Does it matter?
Yes, it does. Jesus came to show us God’s side of mercy. He shows us a God of compassion. He shows us a God who wants us to like him. If we eat and drink, we eat and drink for the Lord. If we abstain from eating and drinking, we abstain for the Lord. At all times we should be blessing and praising God by being blessing for all God’s creation, human, animate, and inanimate.
