Please read the passage before the commentary.

Jesus identifies with the Father.  The one who believes in Jesus also believes in the Father. The one who sees Jesus also sees the Father.  Jesus does not speak on his own; speaks what the Father says.

The Father sent Jesus to save the world; Jesus came into the world to do what the Father wants done.  Therefore, Jesus came into the world, not to condemn the world, but to save it.

God’s commandment is eternal life.  Therefore, when Jesus gives us the word of the Father, Jesus is giving us eternal life.

It may seem complicated, the way God is and works.  God is like an atom, dynamic and bursting with energy.  God is the unity of the Father with the Son and the Holy Spirit in which there is no beginning or end, no bosses or subordinates, no preeminence of one over another.  As the Father speaks his word the Son repeats it.  As the Father wants it, the Son wants it and does it.  There is no need for discussion,  are no differences of opinion, there is no quarrel, anger or dissatisfaction.  While the Father and the Son remain Father and Son with their distinct personalities, they are one in perfect unity of thought and action.

The Father always speaks and the Son always says with the Father speaks.  The Father wants and the Son always does what the Father wants.  There is perfect harmony and powerful wisdom in all God’s thoughts and actions.

In this passage we are given a powerful and dynamic presentation of the inner workings of God.  We can enjoy it, thank God for it.   Jesus came into the world as light shining in darkness.  May the light of Christ vanish our darkness and relish in the true nature of God reveled in Jesus.
